EBCO (BITAR) has been recognized as an active member of the United Nations Global Compact initiative since 2011, making it the first Lebanese construction company and among the first 20 participants in Lebanon committed to the UNGC’s 10 principles in human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption. The Global Compact Network Lebanon (GCNL) was launched in September 2015, and EBCO (BITAR) proudly stands among its founders. Our Managing Partner, Mrs. Nour Bitar, currently serves as the Vice President of GCNL, which is one of 68 Local Networks worldwide and operates as an independent, self-managed entity. The network has grown to include over 227 members, with more than 140 businesses and 87 non-businesses supporting and enacting the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Stewardship Program : Commitment Certificate
EBCO (BITAR) is dedicated to the Lebanon Environmental, Social, and Governance Stewardship program, supported by USAID’s Trade and Investment Facilitation project (TIF Lebanon ) and Capital Concept.
By attaining ESG certification and developing a robust ESG program, EBCO (BITAR) will consistently anticipate and tackle challenges affecting our business, preventing potential risks from escalating into actual problems. This proactive approach enhances our appeal to international direct investments and fosters a productive economic growth trajectory.

LEED Gold Award to Penrose Project at American University of Beirut
Penrose Hall is a renovation project executed at the American University of Beirut and delivered in 2019. Penrose Hall has been converted into a Green Building with LEED Gold certificate that has various green features from the indoor environment quality to its efficiently used materials and resources.
It’s important to highlight that 83.39% of the regularly occupied areas within the building have access to quality view, and occupants in individual and shared space have access to interior lighting, and thermal comfort controls, which highlights the building’s indoor environmental quality. This sustainable site consists of reflective materials to reduce heat island effect, and exterior lighting designs to avoid light trespass and to reduce uplights; materials and resources as well, such as furniture items in public areas, are selected to be compliant with furniture sustainability standards.

BSA Honor Award
In 2008, EBCO (BITAR) was recognized for its exceptional architectural design with the prestigious Honor Award from the Boston Society of Architects. The award was bestowed upon EBCO (BITAR) for the Al Beqaa Housing Compound, a project that provided housing for fishermen in Tyr and supported the local community.
Manara Lighthouse Award by The United Nations Global Compact:
EBCO (BITAR) is proud to be recognized by the United Nations Global Compact for our collaborative work with The Lighthouse Keepers of Beirut. Together, we have undertaken the mission of restoring and revitalizing the historic Manara lighthouse. This project reflects our steadfast commitment to social responsibility and the transformative power of community partnerships. By preserving this iconic landmark, we hope to inspire future generations and enrich Lebanon’s cultural heritage.
